Cleaning up the Manukau

Seaweek - Kaupapa Moana takes place nationwide from Saturday 2 March to Sunday 10 March 2019. The 2019 theme is “Tiakina o Tātou Mōana – Care for our Seas”.
 
The big local event will be the Manukau Harbour Clean Up - Saturday morning 2nd March 2019. So, put that in your diary now and be part of the big clean-up on Cornwallis Beach, or get a team together and clean up a Manukau Harbour beach near you. Other teams will be working around the harbour in various locations so you can join one of those clean-ups.
 
If you’re interested in cleaning up hard-to-get-to beaches during the week then Capt. Hayden will have the Sea Cleaners boat on the harbour and can take small groups to help his team collect rubbish. For information on clean-ups or going out with Sea Cleaners contact mels@subliminal.co.nz.

The annual Seaweek Sand Sculpting Competition will take place on Cornwallis beach after the clean-up. Start planning your creation now. Get your family or a team together, have fun and be in to win great prizes including a kayak.
 
Other Manukau Harbour activities will include a special event about the grey faced petrels living on the west coast and around the harbour. This will take place at Arataki on Tuesday 5 March and will feature researchers from the University of Auckland.
 
There will also be a guided walk at Awhitu on 17 March. Plus, there’s the Onehunga Festival on 23 February at the Onehunga Reserve and Friends of the Farm will be doing a clean-up at Ambury Park foreshore.
 
At Lopdell House in Titirangi award winning cameraman and film maker Robin Kewell will be presenting his series of underwater films at a special Seaweek cinema event.
