Avondale College is a high performing, diverse, co-educational secondary school. Our school motto, Kohia ngā Taikākā, establishes our commitment to provide opportunities for all students to strive for academic, sporting and creative excellence, within an aspirational and caring environment.
Our HEART values: Honesty, Endeavour, Atawhai, Respect and Tenacity provide the foundation for student-focused relationships that allow our large school to have a strong family feel.
Students are at the HEART of all that we do, and our expert teachers support students to reach their potential within and beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to communicate effectively, work independently, question, inquire and develop creative solutions.
Avondale College students consistently achieve excellent academic results. As well as the NCEA curriculum we offer Cambridge International qualifications, providing an alternative pathway to top universities and career opportunities.
Our Innovation Programme offers a third qualification pathway, with Avondale College awarding more industry-based IT certifications than any other provider in New Zealand.
Beyond the classroom we provide an extensive co-curricular programme, with a breadth of opportunity for all students to connect to the wider life of our school.
At Avondale College, our expectations are high, opportunities abound, and role models are plentiful. Our students achieve the exceptional and graduate from our school ready to make a positive contribution to their wider community.
We welcome families to visit us at our Open Evening on Wednesday 29 July, 4-7pm.
At Mt Roskill Grammar School, the vision for our students is for them to become successful and powerful learners, equipped with the attitudes, qualities and qualifications to excel. The quality of the relationships within our school and wider community are pivotal to our success. Our commitment is to each student’s wellbeing and success, enabling students to become positive, effective citizens who have the capacity to lead.
Excellence in learning is our top priority. Our teachers are experts in their subject and skilled facilitators. This year our students were the top scholars in New Zealand in Dance and in Accounting. Over the last five years students have received an average of over 50 scholarship awards, significantly exceeding national averages. They also excel in NCEA, well in advance of national averages.
The motto of our school is ‘Sursum’, which echoes the phoenix in our logo and translates as "to the heights". When students leave Mount Roskill Grammar School they do so with the personal qualities and capabilities that enable them to continue to be successful learners for the rest of their life and the qualifications and attitude to take them to their own heights.

Since 1958, Lynfield College has served the central west Auckland area, developing a reputation as a centre for academic excellence in a safe, caring and positive environment. The College is recognised as a high-performing school.
LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT
Our broad curriculum meets the needs of our diverse learners. We are committed to equipping our students with the skills and resources they need for a successful future.
As a learning community, we value education outside the classroom and believe it is important for our students to be actively involved in the arts, cultural, sports and leadership opportunities.
Multiple learning pathways and mentoring ensure consistently high achievement across all curriculum areas. Commitment to learning and achievement is encouraged, supported and celebrated.
Progress at all levels is monitored, with data used extensively to inform and support the advice and guidance available to students and their families.
OUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Lynfield College employs a blended eLearning approach to promote effective teaching and learning. Students use their own devices in class to enhance their learning experience.
The junior levels are important for establishing and growing the skills and attitudes that lead to success in the senior years. The strength and spirit of the College are dependent on all students meeting expectations and engaging positively across multiple aspects of College life.
Participation in national and international competitions is encouraged. Lynfield College is proud of the success of its students in events across a wide range of curriculum areas.
Our Lynfield College community works together to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. On enrolment, students and their parents or caregivers are asked to sign their acceptance of our Code of Conduct. This code promotes and supports the physical and emotional safety for self and others throughout the College.
The College is divided into year level groups, each led by a Dean who remains with their year level as they progress through the College. Deans are responsible for student enrolment, placement, progress and welfare.
Trained, experienced counsellors offer individual and group counselling. Student Services also provides career counselling, Gateway placements and work experience opportunities. Our counsellors and nurse have direct access to a range of community services and resources including onsite physiotherapy.
To find out more information please visit us during our School in Action Tours and Open Evening.

Auckland International College (AIC) focuses on academic excellence and preparing students for admission to the top universities throughout the world.
We always love to see alumni when they come back to NZ to visit, and one positive aspect of the coronavirus outbreak is that many AIC alumni have flown home to wait out Covid-19.
In early June two illustrious alumni came to see their old teachers and catch up with support staff at AIC. Gillian Xie and Eddie Wu, both from the class of 2017 are currently at the University of Oxford.
Gillian is studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. We asked her if she was surrounded by brilliance and she laughed and said “Well, Malala* is in my year doing the same degree, so it’s easy to feel ordinary around people like her”.
Eddie Wu was on an exchange to Oxford from Swathmore College in the US, when Covid-19 suspended classes in both places. Eddie is studying Economics and Statistics at Swathmore and earning credits at Oxford.
If any New Zealand high school students want to ask about life at Oxford or Swathmore, please get in touch with AIC; we could put you in touch with Gillian or Eddie. We’re sure they’d be happy to talk; they haven’t got much else to do at the moment!
