When the Central West Girl Guide leaders were planning their activities for last term, the now-familiar terms of ‘social distancing,’ ‘lock-down and ‘bubble’ were unheard of. But thinking on one’s feet is not a new concept to a Girl Guide; this intrepid group of leaders did a stellar job of adapting and keeping guiding going safely through the various lockdown levels. Online ‘Zoom’ meetings were a learning curve but provided a great workable platform to keep guiding; they had some interesting discussions, made crafts over video chat, continued to learn new skills, cooked in their own kitchens all at the same time, had fun outdoors, participated in ANZAC Day ‘Stand at Dawn’ standing in their driveways, and most importantly united together and stayed home. They even managed to earn some bonus badges! While lock-down provided some exceptional challenges, they are now happy to have resumed regular meetings, and have spaces for new members and leaders.
