The Auckland branch of Grey Power has recently moved to Blockhouse Bay village.
Grey Power advocates on seniors’ behalf to improve policies and practices that protect and offer hope to seniors as they approach the challenges of ageing. It seems people do get strong messages about saving for older age, but little information about how to cope with transitions through the various stages of older age living. A drop-in office with brochures and trained volunteers provides a listening post and a place for people to consider what options might better suit their needs when facing problems. Suitable and affordable housing is often the biggest challenge, but recently, the issues surrounding Enduring Power of Attorney have generated many questions and inquiries. There’s a warm welcome at 557 Blockhouse Bay Road inside their office space behind Word’s Incorporated, Monday to Wednesday 10.30am – 1pm, and Fridays 10.30am-12.30pm. To go on their email list email akgreypowerinfo@gmail.com or ph 09 626 0895. Grey Power holds its regular monthly meetings on the first Friday of the month at Blockhouse Bay Community Centre. The atmosphere of the Bay is friendly, laid back, and seniors from across the central isthmus can easily reach the Community Centre by bus or by car, with parking at the rear.
