A report from Glenavon School.
Kia Orana ki te ānau o Glenavon. We had a pākau week celebrating the Cook Island Māori Language last week. We learnt some basic language together and some classes made tivaevae [blankets] and ae katu [head wreaths]. Big thanks to Mrs Latoa who gave us all lessons in weaving ae katu, and Mr Tauia for playing the ukulele and collecting our doughnuts for Friday.
The Cook Island group had a wonderful performance in the hall, mako rai Mrs Kerrison! Meitaki mā’ata to Mrs Wongchiu at our “Hub” who organised a gathering with our community at Happy Hour sharing minus [pink potato salad], chicken and doughnuts while they were playing the ukulele. We even heard Mr Hunte was dancing ‘around the world’.
Meitaki mā’ata to all the tamariki and ānau who made this week a success! The next language week is on Sunday 1 September - Saturday 7 September Tongan Language! Mate ma’a Tonga!
E no’o rā.
