​Hello, I am Tracy Mulholland, candidate for Whau Ward Councillor, seeking to represent you around the Auckland Council table for the next three years. I live in the Whau and have for many years.
 
The local body election is not about me, nor should it be about any candidate seeking public office. This election ought to be a contest of ideas; about listening to residents and ratepayers and responding to the needs of our community. 
 
This election should also not be about current elected Auckland Council members claiming credit for things that have been achieved long-term by the Whau Local Board and the dedicated people who’ve advocated long term for projects to meet resident needs.
 
This election is about you. Your expectations. Your priorities and your right to be represented by someone who is accessible, who will represent your views and work for the residents.  I do just that and will continue to.
 
As the Whau Local Board Chairperson for past three years my term has been about delivery and working for you.  Although others seek to claim credit for all the great things achieved in this term at the Whau Local Board my approach has been to listen and take action. 
 
I am your nominated C&R Communities and Residents candidate for Whau Ward Councillor because you deserve a constituent-councillor who will
·         continue to advocate for and restore the “local” in local government
·         place your needs ahead of party politics
·         attend to the priorities of residents and ratepayers here in our part of Auckland.

To respond to residents, I continue to stand by the need to implement the major projects we have achieved funding for. Projects achieved such as the new multi-million dollar new library and  community centre,  the local board One Local Initiative -$105 million for the Whau Pool and Recreation centre, and funding to community groups: Eco Matters, Community Waitakere, The Whau River Environmental Trust, Whau Arts and multiple other locally funded community-led projects. We have supported Maori responsiveness projects, parks and local playground facilities and the first time developed local plans for Pacific and Ethnic communities.
 
This past term has been an answer to your call for ongoing funding for the Glenavon and Kelston Hubs, the Green Bay Community House, Blockhouse Bay and New Lynn Community Centre’s - places you use and have asked us to support. 
 
In working for the community, as chair I’ve insisted on transparency - when there’s a matter of public interest or a Code of Conduct and a finding delivered, we make these public, so you know what is going on and can make informed choices. 
 
It’s time to stop the old cronyism and multiple appointments to boards and other elected positions. 
 
I get that you want councillors who serve you, not political parties with agendas that are hidden from the public eye.  Take a moment to look at the facts about past spending, Council debt, lacking infrastructure, traffic congestion, beaches and waterways you cannot swim in, and a questionable public transport system. We desperately need good policies around urban regeneration and growth - your interests must be served to grow a viable Auckland. 
 
My background in economic development and town centre regeneration has given me commercial acumen to do the job, years of work in the area has proven this.
 
As I knock on doors, people tell me about illegally dumped rubbish, stormwater drains full of leaves, transport issues, damage to walkways and creaking infrastructure that struggles to cope with apparently unfettered infill housing.
 
I take up constituent cases and requests because that is my job. As your Whau Ward Councillor on Auckland Council, your constituent needs are my number one priority.
