What is BHB's Best Landmark?

Puddle Wins Bay “Best Landmark” Status

My dad is supposed to be writing this article but apparently is suffering from "man flu" so has asked me to write something.

My name is Breeze and I am the head receptionist at Blockhouse Bay Vets. Those of you who know me will know I am a Golden Retriever, which is widely recognized as the most beautiful and intelligent breed of dog. I would like to point out that we do not discriminate at the vet clinic and will gladly see ugly stupid dogs.

Now, Blockhouse Bay has some lovely redeeming features like the little old house thing and the boat under the Pohutakawa. These are great landmarks but from a dog's point of view are not very exciting. I think my favourite feature is the Craig Avon Park Puddle. Every winter like magic this puddle appears in the middle of a beautiful green field. If you are a dog, or have a dog, you know the one I am talking about.

After chasing my ball and catching up with the locals in the park, I love to wade into the puddle and lie down with just my head poking out. It is a magical feeling lying in something that is neither liquid nor solid, and smells so GOOD.

The great thing is, even when you finally have to go home you can take that smell with you. I could have that smell on me forever if it wasn't for the fact I get hosed down back at the clinic. It is great while it lasts.

Sadly, this magical puddle will disappear when the weather heats up but luckily there is always somewhere to cool off even on the hottest day.

So my nomination for the best Blockhouse Bay landmark is the Craig Avon puddle. I would love to go there right now but my Dad is being such a baby with his man flu.

I first started working in the Bay in 1997 and tried to escape overseas for awhile but eventually ended up back where I started.
I did return with a Scottish wife, Jacqueline who is also a vet and my business partner at the clinic.
