What People Are Saying
Sue: Hi Kerrie, I have just been given the May edition of the Beacon & what a great paper it is. I especially enjoyed your learning the language of love. I appreciated your 3 mentions of our fair which really helps reminding people to come along. Your paper is getting better & better & far more professional than the paper we get in my area. (May 2021)
Rodger: Lots of colour, good stories, lots of community activities/events. Good reading. (October 2020) Deborah: We've been enjoying receiving it in New Lynn. My husband reads it from cover to cover and doesn't do that for any other newspaper. (August 2020) Sheridan: Hi Kerrie. Congratulations on a very fine July edition of the Beacon. As usual, a good variety of interesting and well written articles. Being an Avondale resident, I was particularly impressed with the Avondale related content, in particular the Avondale Racecourse piece and the Kainga Ora Highbury Housing development (even if the news isn't all good!). It's a shame that more Avondale businesses didn't take up the opportunity to advertise in conjunction with these features. Keep up the good work. (July 2020) Radhamani: We just got ours and loved reading it. (July 2020) Peter: Dear Kerrie, Having just read the latest Beacon, I wish you well with your endeavors to survive this hideous period. I do hope you make it. The Beacon is a great read. (June 2020) Ray: Just read through April’s edition, excellent to have the “history” of our area ! (we live in Maioro St). Your’s is a good, easy reading publication!! ... Kerrie, your publication was a high point today ! Our “other” is waiting for Foodtown to deliver our groceries – and unpacking same! We have only had 1 & 2 “outings” (loosely called) for medical reasons in about 6 or 7 weeks! (May 2020) Deborah Russell, MP for New Lynn: Great edition, Kerrie. It really does seem to be getting stronger and stronger as a publication. Your hard work is paying off, I hope. I think that what I like about it is that it has all the parish pump news - all the little bits and pieces that are going on in our communities. You do this so well! (Nov 2019) Ron: A past pupil of BHB Primary, Avondale Intermediate and foundation pupil of Lynfield College, I recall reading the Avondale Advance in my teens. I left NZ in March ‘65, and have lived in Canada for the last 50 years. The Beacon is a joy to read, a connection with my past – keep up the good work. (Nov 2019) Mary: I have just finished reading the August BHB Beacon and enjoyed it very much. A nice mix of articles. i thought I would share with you how it came to me. My family lived in BHB from 1950s to 1970s and we all went to school at BHB Primary, Intermediate and Lynfield College. My parents ran two shops in the main street- at a time when there weren't many shops. My brother David now lives in France and gets the Beacon online. He forwarded it onto me with a comment about the interesting articles about BHB Primary. I read that and then kept on reading . To my delight I then came across your article about Fear of Public Speaking. I am a member of POWERtalk Waitakere and can well remember having the nervous feelings that Patrick had when I first joined. I'm taking a copy of the Beacon to give to my Mother this weekend. She now lives in Ranfurly Veterans Hospital and will be 99 next week. So from BHB to France and back to Auckland the Beacon certainly gets around. (August 2019) Fran: Congratulations on reaching three years of publishing the Beacon! Well done. Time flies and you guys are doing a great job keeping the local community informed. (July 2019) Val, Probus: A lovely story about you and John and the whole content covered the sort of stories we like to hear from a local point of view. So thank you for your efforts in this direction and good luck with the next edition. (July 2019) Val, Secretary BHB Ladies Probus Club: Thank you for continuing to include our details in 'What's Happening' each month - it is obviously being read because we receive membership enquiries from time to time. (Feb 2019) Ross: Having seen the latest copy of the Beacon and how the editorial has come out, including its length, I am full of praise and extremely grateful to you and John for your kindness and generosity. You have certainly done a very professional job with what you have created and I salute you. (Sept 2018) Gordon: I congratulate you on the outstanding publication the Beacon has now become – surely streets ahead of anything else around! (Dec 2017) Eric: The most interesting local news I have ever read. It drew me to the website - first time since we arrived in the Bay in early '80s. Rosemary: Wow John and Kerrie this is awesome, always liked the old one but this is so much better. Especially being able to see it online and in colour, Great job well done. Early feedback 2016 Norma: I need the print copy for my very elderly mother who lives with us. Thank you. Rachel: Mum was wondering if Powley house is going to get it delivered? [Yes, they do!] Rachel: Awesome, I just checked out the online edition. Looks good :) Have emailed Kerrie in regards to advertising Claire: You guys have done a fabulous job. Well done! I read it online during the weekend. Jacqui: Great to read. Well done. Leilani: It's a great read, thank you! Chris: looking forward to this. Great work guys. Kia Manuia. |
